The Applied Enterprise Systems Department of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking an Enterprise Systems Developer to support ongoing enterprise systems research. The selected candidate will engage with Department of Defense (DoD) customers to understand current business processes, current technology trends, and recommend process improvement paths to help inform digital transformation efforts. Responsibilities include: Design, develop, test, and demonstrate new business applications and solutions using enterprise business system technologies that address next generation defense needs; test and evaluate software tools and architectures, perform technology trade studies, and recommend transition strategies for enterprise application technologies; maintain competency and awareness in emerging software system design and implementation; document and present research findings to customers; and define new project concepts and contribute to proposals. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's degree (Master’s Preferred) in Information Technology, Information Sciences Technology, software engineering, or Programming is desired. Preferred experience areas include: Additional years of development experience with a focus on user experience design; gathering and developing requirements based on customer's operational needs; and business application development experience in maintenance, logistics, or supply chain systems. Experience requirements include: Software development; front end/User Interface development; and familiarity with one or more object-oriented programming languages. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in the prototyping and transition of new business applications in an operational environment, and be able to collaborate with Research and Development Engineers to develop proof of concept software systems.
