A full-time Research Technologist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. John Richie in the Public Health Sciences Department at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The lab is currently focused on oxidants and free radical damage caused by electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) and other tobacco products. Specifically, the focus is on inflammation and cellular damage caused by these products in mouse models of exposure. The lab utilizes both chemical and biochemical assays to assess the potential damage done by both e-cigs and cigarettes. The successful candidate will work with a team of investigators to conduct animal exposure studies and analyze tissue samples for markers of inflammation and oxidative damage. Depending on the independence of the candidate, self-directed research opportunities with the potential for publication may be available. Prior experience with animal handling and biochemical assays is preferred for this position. Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques, responsible, self-motivated, conscientious, flexible, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates that possess the above skill sets. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed term appointment funded one year from date of hire with the possibility of refunding
