Description

PSFEI (psfei.psu.edu) is seeking an Electrical Systems Specialist to develop and assist with programs that include inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining low- and medium-voltage electrical systems; moderately complex relay calibration; and power metering. Position responsibilities include: Investigating electrical distribution system emergencies and issues and assisting with repairs; conducting safety training; assisting with developing and conducting testing programs on electrical distribution systems; developing and executing switching procedures as required to perform electrical distribution system maintenance and testing; and ensuring all work performed is executed at the highest safety standards. This position requires knowledge of specific tests including power transformer testing—Doble, TTR, and insulation resistance; testing of both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays; cable testing—tan delta, power factor, VLF, and DC hipot; automatic transfer switch troubleshooting; and low- and medium-voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. These tasks may be performed in conjunction with PSFEI staff engineers and contract client site maintenance personnel. The successful candidate will interact with electricians, engineers, facilities administrators, and other client personnel, and must be able to write reports and technical narratives that are clear and concise. The position is based in State College, PA; however, moderate travel throughout PA is required (day and occasional overnight). Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. NETA Level II or higher certification is strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with testing electrical systems is strongly preferred. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Security clearances may be required for access to client sites. United States citizenship is required. PSFEI has been providing facilities management and operations technical advice to Commonwealth of PA agencies since 1947. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
