Description

Penn State Scranton is seeking a professional writing tutor. The person selected for this position will be responsible for providing direct tutorial support and programming for writing assistance through the Learning Center at Penn State Scranton. Responsibilities include: Assist/and deliver a range of academic support services with special emphasis on writing skills; tutor individual students on an appointment, online or drop-in basis for up to 20 hours per week; maintain records of services and programs; collect and analyze data as needed; assist/prepare reports and presentations; assist in the planning process to enhance writing assistance at Penn State Scranton; maintain liaison with faculty and academic programs as needed to identify student need and provide feedback; monitor and track students and refer as necessary; assist in the development of writing workshops or events including class presentations, planning content and marketing programs. The following skills and attributes are required: Knowledge of writing assistance and tutorial processes. Knowledge of academic writing and resources for formatting academic work such as MLA, APA and Chicago publication manuals; Proficiency in Microsoft Suites Office software applications including, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency in Internet tools, and online resources such as the WCONLINE scheduler system, Canvas, and Box is preferred. Ability to learn new software and technology; Ability to work well under deadlines and to set priorities; Strong written and verbal communication skills. Master`s degree or equivalent knowledge preferred. One year of related work experience preferred. Experience with English language learners is beneficial.
