Description

The Mahony lab at The Pennsylvania State University is recruiting an outstanding Postdoctoral Scholar for an NIH-funded project focused on applying deep neural networks to understand gene regulatory systems. Specifically, we aim to develop neural network architectures that use heterogeneous sequence and chromatin features to characterize transcription factor binding specificity and the organization of protein-DNA regulatory complexes. Our project goals are supported by the ongoing generation of novel ChIP-seq and ChIP-exo datasets, with which our collaborators are profiling the genome-wide binding locations of numerous regulatory proteins in mammalian cell types. The Mahony lab is part of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the main campus of The Pennsylvania State University (see mahonylab.org). We are core members of the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation and the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, which offer excellent environments for pursuing postdoctoral research in regulatory genomics. The successful candidate will be offered competitive salary and benefits packages, as well as considerable career development opportunities. Prior experience developing neural network applications and/or developing regulatory genomics analysis methods is preferred, but applications will also be considered from individuals who wish to develop expertise across these domains. A Ph.D. in a relevant field is required. Interested individuals should upload their curriculum vitae, contact details for three scientific/professional references, and a personal statement of background and interests. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

These salary bands have been established to provide salary guidelines for staff positions.
