The Center for Science and the Schools (CSATS) seeks to hire a STEM Education Outreach Specialist with elementary level experience. This position offers opportunities to contribute to the development of high-quality programs in science education. The Center focuses on providing teacher professional development programs to connect STEM researchers and K-14 educators through workshop activities that promote current best practices in science teaching and learning. The specialist will collaborate with scientists and engineers to design, manage and implement STEM outreach activities that support teachers’ learning of cutting-edge research and that include classroom and outdoor science activities. These collaborations include co-developing the program plan, writing broader impacts sections of proposals, generating associated budgets, and designing evaluation plans. Responsibilities also include: Developing ways to translate research related to science and science education into the school context; Designing and implementing STEM-focused professional development for K-12 teachers, with a particular emphasis on elementary-level educators; Collecting and analyzing data for evaluation; and Supporting existing and future CSATS projects as needed. Required qualifications include: Master’s degree in education, preferably in STEM education or a closely related field; At least five years of formal or informal K-12 science teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level; and demonstrated academic writing skills. Desired qualifications include: Doctoral degree in education (science education preferred) with a bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline or with an emphasis in a STEM discipline; Strong evidence of project management experience in a relevant educational setting; Experience in integrating computer science and technology in elementary classrooms; Experience in educational research including data collection and analysis, both qualitative and quantitative.
