Description

Penn State seeks an Admissions Counselor dedicated to providing a high level of direct, personal service and programming to ensure high school students’ successful admission and matriculation to Penn State. Responsible to the Director of Penn State Admissions - Philadelphia for recruitment activities in urban Philadelphia, especially for underrepresented students and families, along with assistance in handling general admissions matters. Duties include: recruiting and counseling prospective students and parents, managing assigned college fairs and high school visits, reviewing transcripts and evaluating applications, participation in campus regional events and activities, assisting in community relations activities, building relationships with school counselors/ partners and assisting in planning, organizing and executing special programs and events. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required. Previous recruitment/admissions experience, particularly in urban schools with ethnically underrepresented students, is highly valued attribute. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy are essential. Building and maintaining relationships is a necessary skill for the candidate to be successful. Regional travel is involved and requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Access to personal transportation is also required.
