We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission and as part of this mission Student Financial Services is seeking motivated individuals to fill a full-time position as an Accounting Assistant. The position is responsible for reporting to the Loan Servicing and Collections Accountant for assisting and servicing in the collection of current and delinquent loan accounts and delinquent tuition accounts as well as Endowments and International Taxes. Primary duties include placing outgoing collection calls concerning delinquent accounts, answering incoming telephone calls, and responding to online inquiries. A portion of the responsibilities for this position also includes payment intake, processing payment agreements, performing address searches and updating account addresses. This position is responsible for processing Total Permanent Disability Assignments/cancellations, Death cancellations for Delinquent Tuition balances, Federal Perkins, Penn State loans, as well as preparing the daily deposit for Student Financial Services and processing outgoing mail. Other additional duties may include processing deferments and certifications for enrolled students, physicians in residency programs, AmeriCorps and Peace Corps participants, and Active Duty Military personnel. Endowment and International Tax duties include but are not limited to processing special requests for checks, the weekly reconciliation, all the scanning and indexing for the area as well as provide back-up coverage on an as needed basis. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidates will be able to foster and sustain inclusive relationships with a diverse clientele, including students, borrowers, their parents, licensed collection agencies, the Office of Student Aid, and the Office of the Registrar. The individuals should have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing and demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft, or other student and business systems/software are desired. The Accounting Assistant is required to be compliant with Federal Regulations, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and privacy laws such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).
