The Eberly College of Science is seeking an Academic Adviser committed to working with an advising team to provide high quality service for student success, enhance the climate for the diverse student population in the College and adhere to the Eberly College of Science Code of Mutual Respect. This position primarily guides students in Academic Warning or Suspension to help return to Good Academic Standing and with students who are at risk of entering academic warning. They will also advise students in educational planning within Eberly College of Science who have indicated Premedicine or Science as their intended major as well as students across all colleges who intend to enter health professions. Responsibilities include: assisting students in navigating university policies, procedures and program curriculum; assessing student interests, values, and abilities as they relate to their educational and/or career goals; planning and teaching a First-Year Seminar class for students interested in premedicine/prehealth and science; coordinating special events and programs (e.g., New Student Orientation; Spend A Summer Day; Welcome Day; meeting with prospective students and their families for recruitment efforts for the Premedicine and Science programs); and assisting in the maintenance of the program website. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of the Science Advising Center and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Students. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Competencies critical to success include proven track record of working effectively with students and colleagues in a team environment; excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated time management skills, ability to work independently and as a member of a team, organizational skills and proficiency of computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint is expected. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
