The Pennsylvania State University, Building a Strong Identity and Coping Skills (BaSICS) research project is looking for part-time Program Coordinators in Harrisburg, PA to coordinate and lead the BaSICS after-school youth program. BaSICS is a positive youth development program for diverse, low-income preadolescents that promotes the development of effective coping skills, positive identity, and youth empowerment through a community change project. Responsibilities include preparing, managing, organizing intervention materials, coordination with schools, supervising assistant facilitators, delivering a structured program to groups of pre-adolescents, managing behavior using positive reinforcement, communicating with parents daily, tracking intervention data, coordinating with school administrators, attending weekly team meetings, and administrative tasks as needed. The individual must be confident working with community members to complete community action projects. Clinical training, teaching experience, prior group-work with pre-adolescents, and Spanish-language proficiency are all highly desirable. Requirements include very strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to implement a structured curriculum for children, and the capability to problem solve and reflect on performance. This project is a community-based research study, so the ability to travel to different communities within Harrisburg is essential. This is a regular position with 15 - 24 hours every week, depending on qualifications. Must be able to work 2:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at least two days a week; other hours can be completed during regular business hours. Occasional weekend hours may be required.
