Description

The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) at Penn State is seeking an Advanced CyberInfrastructure Linux Systems Administrator to join our i-ASKteam. The Systems Administrator will be an integral contributor to a fast-paced and growing team of specialists at an institute supported by an exciting $45 million Penn State investment in research CyberInfrastructure. Penn State’s elite researchers use our high-performance research cloud to solve real-world problems by conducting simulations, data mining, and other high-performance computing operations. As our Advanced CyberInfrastructure Linux Systems Administrator you will play a key role in: helping to establish a shared vision and take responsibility for the achievement of team goals; developing plans, schedules and requirements for innovative approaches to solving system, application, and hardware problems; collaborating with scientific users, peers, and vendors to determine the source of problems and resolve them; and, developing methods to pro-actively monitor and enhance ICS systems to support optimal system performance and stability. In addition, you will: manage the installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems, and system software and perform regular maintenance on various system components as defined by the manufacturer or ICS guidelines; create and update system, user, and operational documentation. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Our ideal candidate will have: Linux system administration experience as well familiarity with some common scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby, etc.). Knowledge of the function and operation of system components such as HPC clusters, parallel file systems, high-speed interconnects, networks, resource managers (batch schedulers), and storage are a plus. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
