Description

Penn State Schuylkill is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Affairs to join our campus team. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Student Affairs and is responsible for direct oversight of Campus Life, including (Residence Life and Student Life) the supervision of student staff. Student Life Responsibilities: Develop, supervise, and evaluate a dynamic student activities program that aligns with campus goals and priorities such as student success, community engagement, inclusiveness, and environmental sustainability. Oversee all student life budgets and financial processes, marketing and publicity for student programming including social media/web, and the processing of contracts. Manage all fiscal aspects of student organizations including the program registration process for all Recognized Student Organizations (RSO), co-advise the Student Government Association (SGA), and serve as the primary adviser to the Student Activities Council (SAC). Assist with the implementation and development of New Student Orientation (NSO) and coordinate the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). Provide programming support for the Pathway to Success: Summer Start Program (PaSSS). Residence Life Responsibilities: Supervise 6 to 8 Resident Assistants (RAs). Coordinate paraprofessional staff selection and training and co-instruct the 3-credit course Higher Education (HI ED) 302, The Role of the Resident Assistant: Theory and Practice. Motivate RAs to plan and implement programs that align with campus goals and priorities and meet student needs and interests. Manage crisis situations and serve in on-call rotation. Interpret and enforce the student code of conduct and adjudicate minor residence hall policy violations. Assist with the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start and end of each semester and at breaks, monitor cleanliness of the buildings, and, coordinate inspections and monthly fire drills. This is a 12-month live-in appointment. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education and post-graduate experience is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the continued development of a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. Requires some evening and weekend availability and the operation of a motor vehicle as part of the job duties. A valid driver’s license and the successful completion of a motor vehicle records check is required in addition to the three publicly available clearances. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of re-funding.
