The Digital Communications and Startup Support Specialist (DCSSS) reports to, and is responsible for assisting, the Associate Director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (OEC) under the Office of the Vice President for Research. OEC is primarily focused on growing the quantity and quality of startup companies born of the University’s research enterprise and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The core responsibilities of the Digital Communications and Startup Support Specialist position will be to: establish and manage a digital database for cataloging, tracking and sharing of specialized, reports such as business and communications data and documents for Penn State startup companies; archive and utilize created data and content to support the OEC and the Invent Penn State marketing and communications team in the execution of startup support programs, events and communications materials, including the Startup Leadership Network, National Science Foundation(NSF) I-Corps Site, the Fund for Innovation, the Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference and the Startup Navigator; and creating/executing program, event communications, and outcome reports as required. Key activities include: assisting in selecting an appropriate technology platform and building a strategic data architecture, including but not limited to data segmentation, tagging and file naming conventions; working with ecosystem stakeholders to create and implement user guidelines and ensure data integrity. Researching, collecting and creating necessary content for the startup database through working with key stakeholders like the Office of Technology Management and key collaborators like Ben Franklin Technology Partners. Creation of specialized startup profiles that include patents, licensing, capital and other relevant information. Assisting in the development of a CRM to support OEC activities; startup-related program and event communications; developing and managing a shareable database of all industry members of the Startup Leadership Network (SLN); and assisting in the planning and execution of support materials for various Invent Penn State and OEC programs, events and communications tools and materials as outlined above. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills working in an outcomes-based, fast-paced business, communications and/or university program management environment. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Skilled communication with diverse audiences and experience with technology hardware and software are recommended; organized, detail-oriented and have a fluency in Adobe, Basecamp, Slack, and/or SharePoint; ability to set goals, meet deadlines and both accept direction and take initiative. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility for refunding.
