Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering within Penn State's College of Engineering is seeking a highly qualified individual to lead programs related to online education within the department. Mechanical Engineering (ME) is a leader in online education, which includes a thriving online Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program and online and residential microcredentialling for current undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals. The successful candidate should exhibit expertise in faculty development to support professors in developing pedagogically sound and innovative online Mechanical Engineering courses and will be able to drive new opportunities to develop and assess microcredentialling workshop initiatives. Experience in developing successful courses or instructional design is preferred, as is experience in developing an accessible curriculum in technical disciplines. The successful candidate will also work across boundaries to develop new departmental, college, and university initiatives. The three primary responsibilities associated with this position include: instructional design for ME online courses, development and implementation of micro-credentialing workshops/credentialing/assessment; and working with faculty to develop innovations in instructional delivery. The candidate should have proven experience in teaching at the university level or equivalent, and a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver education via new modes and with new technologies. In addition, candidates should possess superior communication skills and have demonstrated experience in engaging faculty, non-traditional students, professionals, and resident engineering students in curricular and co-curricular activities. An earned doctoral degree or equivalent is preferred; however, applications from exceptional candidates with an M.S. or equivalent will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The position is a non-tenure-line Assistant Teaching Professor rank, multi-year fixed-term appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
