Description

The Transduction Device and Array Development Department in the Sonar Research and Development Division of the Undersea Systems Office within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a motivated and talented Engineering Support Specialist to join our team. This position supports testing a variety of sonar transducers and sonar systems at the on-site sonar calibration facility. Responsibilities include: Conducting acoustic tests; data acquisition and calculations via hardware/instrumentation utilization and software development; documentation of test results and automated report generation; operation, maintenance, and repair of test facilities and equipment; supporting the supervising technical/engineering staff with the layout, design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical/electrical components; assist in the selection and procurement of materials and components; and interaction with vendors. This job will be filled as a level 2, level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Associate's degree or higher in a technical program or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Prior experience with: Sonar or underwater acoustics; experimental test conduct; LabVIEW, MATLAB, and CAD is preferred. Required experience includes: Electronics/electromechanics layout, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting; computer literacy; and operating electronic test equipment.
