The EIT Infrastructure Division is looking for an amazing Systems Design Specialist to join the Enterprise Networks and Communication Services (ENCS) Network Provisioning Team. ENCS is a unit within the EIT Infrastructure division. This person will need to understand how to collaborate and engender great customer service. The successful candidate is responsible to the Manager of Network Provisioning for the administration and ensuring proper operation of Penn State’s Enterprise Networks. They will be expected to take lead roles in the custom delivery of advanced and involved WAN, LAN, Firewall and IP voice services to Penn State, working directly with customers to determine network design requirements. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of practical experience with LAN networking hardware and configuration including TCP/IP v4 and v6, VLAN, STP, QoS and other OSI layer 2 and 3 protocols. The successful candidate will Interact with customers via the enterprise ticketing system - Service-Now, phone, email and face-to-face meetings, including videoconferencing, to determine their needs, requirements, and design specifications for assigned service inquiries. These requests are for advanced (difficult) services in the areas of WAN, LAN, Voice, Interactive Video, Firewall and security, Video Transport and Consulting, which require the customization of features and devices in the service catalog in new ways to meet customer needs. Independently make recommendations and provide specialized guidance to customers as needed. Create and deliver cost estimates for ENCS services for customer review. Process inquiries for basic, intermediate or advanced services as needed. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to identify opportunities for process improvement. Make suggestions for changes and lead implementation teams. The successful candidate will create engineering designs for assigned requests for advanced (difficult) services in the areas of WAN, LAN, Voice, Firewall and security, Interactive Video, and Video Transport. Work with customers to verify requirements. Create engineering designs for requests of advanced, intermediate or basic ENCS services as needed. Reference and update documentation as necessary. Form and lead team meetings to fulfill difficult customer requirements. Assist with billing issues and questions as they arise and ensures billing for services is properly applied to the inquiry once completed. Application review will begin July 15, 2019. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. Experience with Brocade VDX/Juniper product line is desired. Experience with Switching fabrics, VXLAN, firewall administration and VPN administration preferred. Experience with System administration of virtual machines is preferred. Experience with python scripting and ansible preferred. Industry standard network certifications preferred. Must have a background with enterprise LANs, authentication methods, VLANs, Spanning Tree, and Layer 3 switching. Must have moderate knowledge of data manipulation via structured queries and regular expressions. Experience with network monitoring applications is required. Must be detail oriented, well organized, and a self-starter with the ability to work with diverse teams in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Must have strong communication and customer relation skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. On-call coverage and overnight travel is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
