The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State is currently seeking candidates for part-time, temporary Research Support positions to help with observational data collection. The project involves observing childcare center classrooms and using an established scale to capture information about the classroom. Responsibilities of the Research Support personnel will include visiting childcare centers, observing classrooms, and completing rating scales. If not recently trained in the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) and Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) by the Environment Rating Scale Institute, individuals will be required to travel to State College, PA for two consecutive weeks for training. Qualifications for the position include knowledge of early childhood education and development; being detail oriented; possessing professional and personable communication skills; the ability to work independently; access to reliable transportation to the child care centers to conduct the observations; and access to reliable internet and a computer or tablet to complete onboarding, online training, and time reporting. Preferred qualifications include a Child Development Associate Credential, or a Bachelor`s degree or higher in early childhood education or development; and training in or experience conducting the ITERS and/or ECERS. These are remote, part-time, temporary, wage payroll positions for approximately 24 hours per week, for approximately 2 to 8 weeks (in addition to training), depending on the observation schedule. Selection is dependent upon successful accomplishment of background clearances in accordance with Penn State Policy. Additional clearances may also be required.
