Description

The Genomics Core Facility at University Park seeks a full time Research Technologist with experience in molecular biology techniques. The Genomics Core is part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and is a fee for service facility which serves the entire Penn State community. The core provides a variety of services including, next-generation sequencing and Sanger sequencing. This position will be responsible for sample Quality Control (QC) using a variety of instruments, Sanger sequencing, library preparation, and library sequencing on the Illumina NextSeq and MiSeq. We are seeking individuals capable of, and comfortable with, working in a team environment. Organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with co-workers and customers are essential attributes of the successful candidate. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology or a related field and relevant lab experience. As we are a service laboratory; it is essential that the successful candidate must be willing and able to closely follow Standard Operating Procedures(SOP) to produce consistent high quality data. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding.
