Description

The College of the Liberal Arts is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our web and creative services team. The primary responsibilities for this position are: writing, editing, and managing content for websites and electronic signage. The Communications Specialist will work with faculty and staff to craft web content that articulates the value of the college’s departments, institutions, centers, and labs. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with unique units, help them find their voice, and create content to reach diverse audiences and meet stakeholder needs. All applications must be submitted electronically through Penn State’s job application system and include both a cover letter and resume for consideration. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience writing for website content management systems or working with website content management systems (such as Drupal, Plone, or Wordpress), desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office 365) is preferred. Key attributes for the individual are: verbal and written communication, creativity, adaptability, and accountability. The ideal candidate can manage multiple projects in parallel, produce accurate work, and meet deadlines. This position requires a high level of self-direction, strong attention to detail, excellent time management, ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders, and organizational skills. The candidate should be familiar with uses of social media, interested in how technology is changing communication, and be interested in proactively researching academic digital communication trends and best practices. In addition, the ideal candidate must have a positive attitude, an enthusiastic approach to new ideas and an optimistic view of the future for Penn State IT. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
