Description

Penn State Brandywine seeks a talented, motivated, and enthusiastic individual to work as a Research Technologist on a project investigating the structure and function of mitochondria in protozoan parasites. This individual will be trained to use cutting-edge techniques in cell and molecular biology to contribute to a dynamic research program. We are seeking someone organized and detail-oriented who can achieve project goals through experimentation, interpretation of results, and preparation of results for publication and presentation. This individual will supervise undergraduate students and will ensure adherence to relevant safety and environmental procedures. This person will work as a team member in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce and will be required to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing. Job duties: Apply standard scientific practices, techniques, and methods as appropriate. Correlate data; recognize discrepancies in results and follow and diagnose protocols. Perform experiments in the laboratory to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions on basis of research findings; includes measurements and recording of observations, collecting, compiling, and processing of data. Stay current on published research in the field. Organize data/findings for use in technical reports, documents, or oral/written presentations. Coordinate operational activities in a research laboratory, providing support services to researchers and students. Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory. Coordinate ordering, managing appropriate inventory, storage and administration of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab. Instructs others in protocols and instrumentation. Supervises undergraduate students. May attend and/or present research findings at local, national, and international conferences. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
