Penn State Executive Programs in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) is seeking an Assistant Director of Client Development to grow our team. The Assistant Director of Client Development will be primarily focused on creating and growing long-term relationships with corporations, organizations, and individuals by promoting the full portfolio of our executive development programs. The ideal fit is a team player who is a creative problem solver, loves developing an understanding of strategic challenges in all industries, and is passionate about envisioning and implementing transformational, high-quality learning professional initiatives. The Assistant Director will work with client leaders at all levels to understand the strategic goals of the organization, collaborate in the development of learning solutions, and implement programs. They will lead the faculty and operations teams from program vision through implementation – and assess final outcomes and quality. To do this, the successful candidate will be able to: Identify and develop long-term relationships with national and international companies in a variety of industries and locations; discover and understand key business imperatives and talent development needs for client organizations; and envision programs or services to address client goals. Ultimately, this role is responsible for developing and delivering leadership development programs that are extremely high quality, financially sustainable, and exceed the expectations of our stakeholders. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Client Development will be responsible for executing team strategy to deliver on finance and development plans. To do this, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing current custom accounts while proactively increasing the quantity of new organizational relationships and short course enrollments, as appropriate. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to developing new relationships (prospecting), managing existing corporate relationships, writing and negotiating proposals and contracts, managing programs in assigned portfolios, developing market messages, and managing projects from vision through implementation. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred. This position requires the ability to think and act entrepreneurially, manage business development conversations at senior leader levels, collaborate on program development, support and inform marketing efforts, and lead faculty and staff through implementation. The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics: proven track record in new business development and experience in a complex corporate sales, preferably within education or training; executive presence and experience interacting and influencing senior leaders; skilled in consultative relationship building; excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and presentation; natural team player with the ability to engage different people and a diverse clientele; strong project and program management skills; strong negotiation and influencing skills, and good resolution conflict ability; energy, drive and an entrepreneurial spirit and approach to work. The ability to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally is required. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
