Description

The College of the Liberal Arts is looking for a knowledgeable Information Technology (IT) Consultant to join our ITLA (Information Technology in Liberal Arts) team. Primary duties include: Establish a positive and productive BRM (Business Relationship Management) partnership between the College of the Liberal Arts faculty, staff and IT; Plan and facilitate meetings with faculty and staff; Identify, consult, assess and understand the customer IT needs including: computing, storage, data transfer, research, data management/compliance, and grants; Collaborate with the PEC (Planning, Effectiveness and Communication) team and ITLA technology managers to determine the best possible customer IT solutions; Coordinate customer IT solutions implementation; Provide appropriate customer technology operational configuration and training; Follow-up with customers to ensure all IT needs have been provided, meet their requirements, and achieve their expectations; Ensure researcher data complies with Penn State security policies and standards; Provide frequent updates; Be the ITLA POC (Point Of Contact) and SME (Subject Matter Expert) for research technologies that will support faculty research initiatives and projects that require new or enhanced technology solutions; Utilize customer feedback to make recommendations for upgrades and enhancements to existing services, create new services, and improve workflows, process, and procedures; Proactively explore new technologies that will enhance the college's effectiveness, capabilities, and technology portfolio of services; Conduct feasibility studies for projects, develop requests for proposals, evaluate vendor products; Assist ITLA with vendors negotiations and provide selection recommendations; Participate in and provide information to support ITLA portfolio of services strategic planning process; Assist in the preparation and evaluation of requests for proposals relating to enterprise equipment, services, and technology. Provide clear, effective verbal and written communications. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must be an excellent customer advocate, must be able to interact and manage customers with professionalism, provide a high level of verbal and written communication, customer service and specialized support. Possess and apply advanced knowledge of: hardware, software tools and operating systems, IT security and University policies. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and require minimal supervision. In addition, the ideal candidate must have a positive attitude, an enthusiastic approach to new ideas and an optimistic view of the future for Penn State Information Technology. Have the ability to work with both internal ITLA resources and customers to build a consensus to ensure the IT solutions are implemented and achieve the customer’s expectations. Be able to document specialized summaries within the ITSM (IT Service Management) tool to establish useful knowledge articles; Enjoy learning and becoming proficient with new technologies; Key attributes for the individual are: creativity, adaptability, and accountability, multi-tasking various projects in parallel, and working efficiently within a team environment. This is a fixed term position funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
