Description

Penn State Harrisburg is seeking qualified applicants to apply for a Drug and Alcohol Counselor position. A member of the Counseling and Disabilities team, this employee will provide individual and small group counseling to students seeking assistance, to those worried about drugs and alcohol use of others, and to those referred for Penn State BASICS alcohol and marijuana educational programming. The Counselor will work with a variety of on- and off-campus constituencies to develop, present, and assess educational and prevention programming. He or she will develop a peer education and prevention program to focus on drugs and alcohol. The employee will also engage in other outreach activities associated with Student Life programming. The employee will conduct intakes and screenings of students seeking mental health support. The Counselor may at times carry a small mental health caseload. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in Social Work or related discipline or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The preferred candidate will be licensed or license eligible as a Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Psychologist, or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Experience in drugs and alcohol counseling and/or prevention programming strongly preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is a fixed-term 83.3% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. The Counselor will work 10 months (August 1 through May 31) per year. Full Penn State benefits included.
