Description

Penn State Nutritional Sciences seeks an experienced and dedicated individual to serve as their Financial Assistant. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, processing financial documents such as requests for checks, interdepartmental transfers, cash receipts, purchase orders, and journal vouchers in Penn State’s Financial mainframe, IBIS, and travel reimbursements in Penn State’s Concur Travel System, ERS. Resolve budget transactions and clear up budget detail errors. Serve as back up for purchasing card reconciliations and scanning and e-filing documents as appropriate. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively and work with vendors, faculty, students as well as Finance, Research and Purchasing Office staff. They will review and approve accounting transactions within authorized limits and provide training to department personnel in fiscal matters to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. Prepare correspondence and provide back-up support as needed to other office staff. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Effective oral and written communication skills and attention to detail is highly desired. Knowledge of University-specific financial and human resource systems is not required; however, general and transferable knowledge relative to other financial mainframe and human capital management systems is expected. Proficiency in the use of database applications for analysis and reporting is preferred. The candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team. Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills and the ability to multi-task required. This individual must be proactive in identifying problems and solutions and possess a strong work ethic and initiative.
