Virtual Design BIM Engineer

Design Services is seeking a Virtual Design Building Information Modeling(BIM) Engineer. The successful candidate will work across all architecture, engineering and construction disciplines to implement Penn State’s BIM initiatives on facilities projects and coordinate the transfer of data and models into facilities management. This role focusses on developing and maintaining BIM processes and standards in design, construction and facility management supporting the OPP enterprise efforts. Job duties and responsibilities include: continued upkeep and development of OPP’s BIM standards and deliverables; assist in the development of a business plan to implement BIM across the project lifecycle; act as a point of contact for BIM and BIM related issues between project teams and facility managers at University Park and across the Penn State Commonwealth Campus system; champion use of full BIM implementation in all aspects of design, construction and operations; provide oversight, direction and support to project designers and contractors for integration of the program’s BIM standards and procedures; develop the requirements and standards for integrating submittals, manufacturer’s data and as-built information into the BIM model to enhance the model’s facilities management capabilities; assist with integrating BIM into the commissioning process; work with facility managers to develop BIM utilization strategies and programs for operations and maintenance; develop, implement and follow Model Quality Assurance Program procedures; develop, review and approve BIM execution plans; review and comment on proposal documents related to BIM. Design Services provides architectural and engineering services for construction projects on Penn State campuses. Projects are primarily renovations and repairs to the University’s buildings, facilities and infrastructure. Project sizes and scopes vary from small office or lab renovations to whole building renovations and major infrastructure and plant upgrades. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related discipline or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. PE license is desired. Experience is preferred in as many of the following areas as possible: BIM Execution Planning, BIM for facility management, electronic construction document handling, process mapping, improvement and re-engineering, demonstrated knowledge implementing and utilizing BIM technologies and/or related design/graphics software with preference for Autodesk products, the creation, development and ongoing maintenance of BIM models, use of models for site staging and logistics plans, construction phasing, constructability, project sequencing and scheduling, quantity take-offs, object attributes for asset management, FM (COBie) data conversion, and model commissioning. Data management knowledge and skills are preferred in as many of the following as possible: PowerQuery, DAV, SQL, Access, PostGres, MySQL, Dynamo, or other related data management tools. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
