Penn State Abington is seeking an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications for the Office of Strategic Communications and Community Engagement. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Communications and Community Engagement. Primary responsibilities include: Marketing and PR – Direct the creation, implementation, and manage the strategic marketing plan. Support brand development and stewardship through thoughtful marketing and public relation strategies. Supervise, lead, and inspire a team of communications professionals who are responsible for social media, public relations, new stories, and strategic events. Collaborate with the graphic designer and web manager to support marketing initiatives. Work in coordination with marketing professionals at University Park to implement regional strategies and tactics. Manage and support Chancellor communications and crisis communications, and serve as the unit spokesperson, in the absence of the Director. Staff Management - Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit, management and evaluation of the staff (Social Media Coordinator, Writer, Event Coordinator). The position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills and will interact closely with other departments such as Admissions, Enrollment Management, and Development to support student recruitment goals, and major gift announcements. The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications will manage related departmental budget(s) and approve expenditures. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience is preferred. Experience in marketing for higher education is preferred. Successful candidate must have experience in digital demand generation to reach target audiences and raise the visibility and positive presence of Penn State Abington in the local community and Greater Philadelphia region and provide follow-up analytics and outcomes assessments for marketing initiatives. This position also requires a working knowledge of Google Analytics, web content management systems, and social media platforms. Qualified candidates must possess superior understanding of technology, strong verbal and written communication skills, and strong relationship-building skills. Proven project management skills are essential as is the ability to meet deadlines, juggle competing priorities, and interface with a wide variety of constituents on a daily basis. Position requires the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
