A postdoctoral position in cardiovascular data sciences is immediately available in Dr. Gerd Brunner’s laboratory in the Heart and Vascular Institute at Penn State College of Medicine on the Hershey campus after July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will work with imaging (MRI, CT, US, histology) and clinical data from various studies in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians and scientists. The selected applicant will develop algorithms in image analysis, machine learning, and pattern recognition with the goal of identifying individuals with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Highly motivated individuals with a recent degree., first-author publications, and a strong drive for research are encouraged to apply. A PhD or MD/PhD in computer sciences, biomedical imaging or engineering, or related field is preferred. Demonstrated excellence in computer programming is needed in MATLAB, Python and/or other languages. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to learn about the multi-disciplinary aspects of ongoing research are necessary for this position. To succeed in this position, the applicant needs to be goal-oriented, self-sufficient, and able to work independently and in groups in a fast-paced research environment. Previous publications in top-tier conferences and journals including CVPR, MICCAI, BMVC, ECCV, MIA, TIP, IJCV, or TPAMI are a strong plus. This position is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The appointment will be initially for one year with a possibility of renewal, based on demonstrated productivity. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for external post-doctoral funding. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
