The Office of Entrepreneurship & Commercialization, under the Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking a strategic-minded individual with financial management experience to lead the Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC). As one of more than 800 SBDCs nationwide, the Penn State SBDC serves Centre and Mifflin counties by helping pre-venture, startup, and existing small businesses. It also serves student entrepreneurs, researchers interested in commercialization, and community entrepreneurs. This position reports directly to the Director of the Office of Entrepreneurship & Commercialization and is responsible for the management and operation of the SBDC in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and other governing documents. The Director manages the delivery of services to ensure that all performance expectations are met while supervising a staff of four. The Director prepares proposal for funding, manages and monitors the budget, and ensures budget targets are met. Developing partnerships and collaborations is a critical element of the position. This individual will provide outreach to educate clients, partners and stakeholders on SBDC services and impact, and act as public relations point of contact for matters pertaining to the SBDC. The ideal candidate will have experience working with an SBDC, knowledge of entrepreneurship and small business development, experience managing grants and contracts, the demonstrated ability to develop collaborations, and strong written and oral communication skills. We value candidates who are forward-thinking, open-minded, and flexible. The Director will attend all meetings of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers. We seek candidates who can demonstrate experience and ability to advance Penn State’s economic development and entrepreneurship initiatives. This job will be filled as a level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 4. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Master’s degree in business management, marketing, accounting, finance, or economics is preferred. Excellent computer skills are required and experience working with a Customer Relations Management(CRM) is preferred. This position requires contribution to knowledge creation and dissemination through communicating with peers and participating in network activities. Requires some evening and weekend work. Travel is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
