The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor/Associate Teaching Professor position (non-tenure track) to begin in Fall 2019. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of renewal. The position will offer benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications. Responsibilities will include teaching 3 courses per semester, advising undergraduate majors, and serving on the department’s undergraduate program committee. The courses include both classroom and online formats. The Department engages in extensive outreach activities for the community and for specific audiences. Every summer, these include a four-night festival of astronomy, two workshops for in-service teachers, and a "Road Scholar" program for older adults. In addition, numerous programs for K-12 students in the community are held year-round. The successful candidate will assist the department organizers with these activities. A Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics is preferred, a PhD in a related field with strong astronomy teaching experience will be considered. Experience teaching pre-service or in-service teachers and/or experience in astronomy education research is also preferred. Planetarium presentations and volunteer training experience will be considered.
