The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an exercise oncology subject matter expert for intervention trials in the Schmitz lab. This person will assist cancer patients in preparation for and participation in exercise testing and intervention protocols. This requires expertise in many areas, including behavioral science, regulatory processes for clinical trials, consenting patients, carrying out exceptional quality data collection, preparation of blood tubes and other materials for data collection, appropriate response to patient feedback on exercise intervention protocols (e.g.; adjustments to the protocol per patient symptoms), data entry and management in RedCap and other hierarchical databases, creation of reports for the supervisor, and producing data as needed for grants being written by Dr. Schmitz and colleagues in her lab. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. For this particular position, there will be contact with at least three human subject research protocols at a time, so multitasking and staying on top of data collection, recruitment, and intervention for all three protocols is an absolute necessity. The position requires someone who can manage a large volume of work in a regular workday, switching tasks from project to project frequently. Further, all of the subjects in the studies of this laboratory are cancer patients, and our studies are NOT curative, but supportive. As such, understanding the vital importance of good relationships with the oncology clinical team treating the patient and the priority of our research as compared to their curative care must be an implicit understanding for this staff person. EXCEPTIONAL interpersonal skills are an absolute requirement for this staff person. This is a fixed term appointment funded one year from date of hire with the possibility of refunding.
