The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking an experienced candidate for a non tenure-track Associate Research Professor position as a Senior Science and Technology Advisor to the ARL and Applied Biosecurity Research Lab (ABRL) Director, as well as a consultant and subject matter expert in biological life sciences, threat agent science, and Biological Safety and Security for ARL. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of investigators to guide innovative research related to Global Health Security, Biosecurity and National Security. You will provide assessments on a wide range of scientific and technical related issues affecting the Huck Institutes, ARL and ABRL directly relevant to the core ARL and ABRL missions. Responsibilities include: interact with internal (Penn State) and external research collaborators, and funding institutions including national security and defense related US Government agencies; organize conference symposia/presentations; participate in applications for external funding as a subject matter expert in the above mentioned areas; be involved with, or oversee, the design of technical program strategies in collaborative engagements with potential sponsor organizations, as well as oversee technical project execution; develop a national and health security focused Post-Doctoral program in partnership with relevant Penn State senior faculty. Typically requires a Ph.D. in Biology, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or related discipline and 10 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must be able to identify and analyze technical issues and bring them to the attention of leadership in order to minimize/mitigate risks and identify solutions. Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible, team-oriented and creative along with having excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills all while maintaining a high level of productivity guiding multiple projects simultaneously. Employment with the ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one year, fixed-term renewable appointment.
