A US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) funded position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Dudley, Department of Food Science at The Pennsylvania State University. The candidate will generate genome sequences of food and environmental bacteria as part of the FDA 's GenomeTrakr program. Other requirements include curating and uploading data to the FDA, and participation in monthly phone calls and face-to-face project reports. Opportunities exist for this individual to develop independent projects in collaboration with the FDA, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and other GenomeTrak participants in the areas of bacterial genomics as it relates to public health. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in microbiology, food science (microbiology emphasis), public health, or related area highly preferred. Preference will be for candidates with prior laboratory experience in bacterial genome sequencing. This position is available beginning July I, 2019, with salary negotiable based on degree and experience.
