The Eberly College of Science is seeking an Academic Adviser to be part of our advising team focused on premajor/major students interested in the premedicine and science programs. The successful candidate will have a background in academic advising with strong commitment to serving diverse student populations. Duties will include providing academic advising to assigned students, assisting students in navigating University policies and procedures and program curriculum, and coordinating special events and programs which directly assist undergraduate students. Assist with New Student Orientation; meet with parents; advise students; and make presentations. Teach first-year seminar for students interested in premedicine/prehealth and science. Serve on the pre-professional evaluation committees and assist in compiling information and correspondence. The successful candidate will work closely with the director of the Premedicine major, the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Students and the Director of the Science Advising Center to support the mission of health professions advising. We are seeking an individual who is committed to working with the advising team to provide high quality service to students and who will work to enhance the climate for the diverse student population in the College. Adherence to the Eberly College of Science Code of Mutual Respect is expected. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Applicants with a science background and advising experience preferred. Other required skills include attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint are desirable. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
