The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) is seeking applicants for a Marketing Communications Specialist to lead the marketing and communications efforts of the EMS Energy Institute. Responsibilities include: manage the production of integrated and strategic marketing and communications plans consistent with the institute’s, college’s and University’s brand strategies; research, interview, and write science articles, news releases on research activities, special events (conferences, workshops, seminars), and other activities related to the EMS Energy Institute and the energy community. The marketing communications specialist will lead the planning and implementation of marketing initiatives including tasks such as: write headlines and assign appropriate photos/graphics to accompany stories; distribute news releases and event profiles; maintain and update website(s) with fresh and engaging content; assist faculty with research consortia and upload final reports, meeting presentations, consortia news, and other useful and relevant information to consortia members; managing the institute’s social media; adhere to University web design policies; lead liaison with regard to publications and promotional materials with members of consortia; work with faculty and designers to create brochures, posters, displays, exhibits, etc.; manage the production of media and print materials for offset reproduction of publications, graphics, displays, exhibits, and other projects; attend and photograph lectures and special events; and monitor database(s). In addition, the final candidate will assist in meeting planning to include communications and registration information, hotel and meeting accommodations, and production of agendas, presentation booklets, and other meeting materials. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with writing for the web and contributing content to an online content management system such as Drupal is helpful. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat) and publication layout skills are preferred. The qualified individual will have excellent oral and written communication skills, will work well independently, and will be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously. This position may require overnight travel.
