The Office of Student Activities is seeking diverse and culturally competent candidates to cultivate student learning by fostering exploration, community engagement and development through educational and experiential opportunities. The Assistant Director will work actively along with the Student Activities team in creating a culture of inclusion and respect. The Assistant Director will provide strategic direction for service and leadership initiatives in collaboration with the Director and lead a team of two Program Coordinators and a Graduate Assistant. Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate a commitment to student development and civic engagement and enhance the learning experience for students through programs, workshops, dialogue and reflection which meet students at varying stages of development. Programs under the Assistant Director include, but are not limited to, alternative breaks, days of service and weekend and week-long leadership programs. Specific responsibilities of the position include curriculum development for the Penn State Leadership Institute and online leadership certificate program and the development and implementation of a holistic wellness living option in collaboration with Residence Life. The ability for the Assistant Director to establish and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships across the University is critical to the success of these programs. This position has oversight for the advisement of the Council of Lionhearts, compromised of student leaders from service-oriented student organizations and the MLK, Jr. Commemoration Student Planning Committee. The Assistant Director will serve on the leadership team for Student Activities and assist in setting priorities and direction for the department. Administrative responsibilities of this position include training and evaluating staff, assessing learning outcomes and completing reports, and administration of a $130,000 budget from multiple sources, including the student fee, an endowment and general funds. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position may entail operating a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check may be required in addition to standard background checks. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required.
