The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institute for CyberScience at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park is pleased to invite applications for tenure-track positions anticipated in mechanical engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. We will consider applicants in the area of energy with particular interest in uncertainty quantification (UQ), data-driven modeling, and optimization. The Department is home to more than 50 faculty, 350 graduate students, and 800 undergraduate students. The faculty conduct in excess of $20M per year of funded research across a broad spectrum of traditional and emerging areas. Penn State actively encourages and provides resources for interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes. As one of Penn State’s five university-wide research institutes, the Institute for CyberScience (ICS) connects researchers from numerous disciplines to answer critical scientific questions and societal issues through cyber-enabled research and methodology. The Institute has nearly 300 affiliated faculty, with about 30 tenure-track co-hired faculty, engaged in interdisciplinary computation and data enabled research. Affiliated faculty utilize ICS operated Advanced Cyber Infrastructure (ICS-ACI), Penn State’s high-performance research cloud, which is in the top 15 among our peers. Further information on the Department can be found at: and on the Institute can be found at: Successful applicants will have a track record of outstanding scholarly research in the general areas of interest of the Department and the Institute and will have expressed strong interest in engineering education. Qualification for the position is a doctorate in engineering or a related field that must be completed by the start date in the position. Those considered for the Associate level must demonstrate an established record in research. The successful candidates are expected to teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, to develop an internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program, and to contribute service to the operation and promotion of the department, institute, college, university, and profession.
