The Gould Center for Geography Outreach and Education at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, seeks a Post-Doctoral Scholar to assist with an NSF-funded research stream that seeks to improve the quality of publicly available, spatially-consistent, Census data in association with the National Historic GIS project (nhgis.org). The candidate will be responsible for working in the Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC) either at Penn State or at one of the other FSRDC’s. Duties include development of a stand-alone geocoding tool, conducting geolocation research within the FSRDC, and working with the project team to secure release of information from the FSRDC and disseminate findings. The candidate will be expected to independently develop his/her own research agenda as well as to work collaboratively with project staff, colleagues across the University, and other research groups conducting work on spatially-consistent Census data. Strong programming skills and Federal Special Sworn Status are essential. A Ph.D. in geography, sociology or related field is required by the date of hire. This is a fixed term position funded for one year from the date of hire. Start date is expected to be August 2019.
