The College of Information Scienes and Technology (IST) Office of Undergraduate Recruiting seeks student consultants representing each of the IST majors to work directly with the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruiting to encourage prospective students to attend the college. The student consultants will: develop interactive activities (could range from 5 minute demonstrations to 45 minute hands-on activities) related to their specific major to use at various College of IST recruiting events, which may include: Explore IST Day (September 2019); For the Glory (January 2020); Accepted Student Programs (February-April). Join the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruiting during virtual appointments (some evenings) or virtual high school classroom visits (during the day) for prospective students and their parents. Help to create welcoming recruitment messages to students who have received an offer from Penn State. Conduct online research for regional and national outreach organizations for possible strategic partnerships development (Ex. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, STEM-Related organizations). Help identify classroom activities/projects/real world, topical examples of your major in action that can be leveraged for recruitment’s use (ex. Guest speaker to interview, class project to use in presentations, etc.). Work on office projects as needed (ex. organizing marketing materials, room set up, etc.). The student consultants will be expected to work relatively independently to meet the goals and objectives of the project and will attend select recruiting functions for high school students, which may occur during the weekend and/or early evening hours. The project will span at least 300 work hours over both fall and spring semesters, for approximately 10-15 hours per week and the rate of pay will be between $12.00-$14.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Students will report to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruiting and have an opportunity to engage in a collaborative work setting with other academic services staff; as well as, high school students and their families.
