Digital Communications Specialist

The College of the Liberal Arts is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to join our web and creative services team. The primary responsibilities for this position are: creating, managing, and updating web content and electronic signage. The position may also assist with: content creation for social media, special events, photography, video production, and administrative support. The Communications Specialist will work with faculty, staff, students and vendors to complete projects and should have an appreciation for working with diverse audiences. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Previous experience with website content management software (such as Drupal, Plone, or Wordpress), desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office 365) is preferred. Key attributes for the individual are: creativity, adaptability, and accountability, manage multiple projects in parallel, produce accurate work and meet deadlines. This position requires a high level of self-direction, strong attention to detail, excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability and willingness to learn new software programs. In addition, the ideal candidate must have a positive attitude, an enthusiastic approach to new ideas and an optimistic view of the future for Penn State IT. Have the ability to work with both internal ITLA coworkers and customers to build a consensus to ensure the IT solutions are implemented and achieve the customers’ expectations. The candidate should be familiar with uses of social media and be interested in proactively researching academic digital communication trends and best practices.
