Description

Design Services is seeking a Design Engineer (Mechanical) for our Mechanical group. Duties include supervising a few mechanical designers, designing mechanical engineering (HVAC) and plumbing systems and components on single and multidisciplinary projects, writing technical and price proposals and performing feasibility studies. Design Services provides architectural and engineering services for construction projects on Penn State campuses. Projects are primarily renovations and repairs to the University’s buildings, facilities and infrastructure. Project sizes and scopes vary from small office or lab renovations to whole building renovations and major infrastructure and plant upgrades. This job will be filled as a level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related discipline or higher plus ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 4. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred Qualifications: Revit expertise, ability to interpret and apply mechanical (building) codes, ability to design and size heating and cooling and equipment, duct work and piping systems, ability to use building simulation software for calculating heating and cooling loads, familiarity with energy-conservation and calculation aspects associated with HVAC, ability to manage multiple concurrent Facilities Mechanical Engineering design projects to meet budget and schedule requirements, ability to work exceptionally well within a team and lead projects. This includes communicating effectively and maintaining relationships with project stakeholders and coworkers and the ability to coordinate projects with other engineering disciplines. Required Qualifications: Experience in the design, specification, construction and operation of facilities mechanical, heating ventilation, air condition (HVAC) and plumbing systems. This includes construction drawing and specification production using AutoCAD or Revit. Professional Engineer’s license in Pennsylvania or the ability to become licensed within nine months.
