Description

The Emotion Development Lab at The Pennsylvania State University, headed by Dr. Kristin Buss, and The Cognition, Affect, and Temperament Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University, headed by Dr. Koraly Pérez-Edgar, seeks a Research Assistant (http://emotiondev.la.psu.edu,http://www.catlabpsu.com). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a 5-year NIMH-funded study investigating the developmental trajectories of early temperament and attention in infancy, with a focus on risk for anxiety. In doing so, the lab incorporates a number of techniques, including electrophysiology (EEG & ERP), psychophysiology (RSA), eye-tracking, direct behavioral observation, and questionnaires. This work will take advantage of the University’s broad resources, including the Child Study Center (http://csc.psych.psu.edu/) and the PACT/HCHCD (http://www.pact.la.psu.edu).The successful candidate will be responsible for: Recruiting and maintaining contact with infants and their families; Collecting, processing, and analyzing behavioral, psychophysiological, and/or electrophysiology data; Aiding in human subject protocols, consent forms, and annual IRB approval, and community engagement; General lab management duties. The position will also involve overseeing a large and dynamic team of undergraduate and graduate students. The project involves three data collection sites (Site 1: Penn State University Park, PA; Site 2: Penn State, PACT Center in Harrisburg, PA; Site 3 Rutgers University in NJ). The person in this position will be responsible for managing the Harrisburg, PA site and coordinating with PIs, staff, and students at other sites to maintain data fidelity and integrity across the three locations. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field plus past experience in labs that conduct psychophysiology, and/or eye-tracking studies will be considered a strong plus. Research experience with children is highly desirable. Experience processing neuroimaging data using relevant software programs (e.g., AFNI, MATLAB, SPM, FSL), programming experimental tasks (e.g., using E-prime, Presentation), statistical analysis (SPSS, SAS) is also highly desired.To apply, please upload a cover letter of interest, a CV, and a list of 2 or 3 references (and their contact information). The successful candidate will have strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data management and preparation of data for analysis. The skills learned through this experience will be useful for individuals who intend to go to graduate school in psychology, neuroscience, or human development. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding. This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 30 hours per week.
