There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral scholar position in the laboratory of Shanmughapriya Santhanam PhD in the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute at the Penn State College of Medicine. The main focus of the lab is to investigate the role of mitochondrial calcium signaling in physiology and disease states. The candidate will develop research projects related to developing in vivo and in vitro animal models of ischemia/reperfusion, myocardial infarction and heart failure. Responsibilities include development of hypotheses, study design, performance of studies, data analysis, manuscript preparation and grant writing. The ability to communicate across disciplines, outstanding critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential. Required qualifications include a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, life science, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must have a strong publication record in high-impact journals and demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research. Experience with animal cardiovascular disease models, cardiac physiology, metabolism, standard molecular and cell biology techniques, live cell imaging and tissue culture preferred.
