Description

Penn State New Kensington, which is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, is seeking a coordinator of the campus Learning Center. As part of our campus Success Center team, the Learning Center provides comprehensive tutoring services for students as well as other services in conjunction with the campus advising and career services units. The coordinator will provide oversight of on-site tutoring services including recruiting, hiring, and training of peer tutors; managing HR processes and payroll paperwork for tutors; supervising targeted success programs for campus athletes; and working with other special populations (e.g. adult learners, conditional students, international students) to provide programming to support academic success. The coordinator will also provide professional-level tutoring for campus students in either a core area (e.g. math or writing) or in a discipline relevant to the majors offered at the New Kensington campus. In addition to the focus on tutoring, the coordinator will provide intake and accommodation protocols for students who file for accommodations due to cognitive learning disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA). Special services and tutoring for students with accommodations will be managed by the coordinator. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Employment experience in a university setting is strongly preferred. Solid expertise in math (areas at and above calculus) or college-level writing is preferred. The selected candidate should have strong communication and organizational skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of basic office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) and comfort with a variety of online and other digital systems is necessary. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is an 83.3% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. The position will work full-time for 10 months and will be off for 2 months in the summer. Occasional evening or weekend duties may be required. Full Penn State benefits included. This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
