The Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development (NERCRD) is a small research and outreach unit located in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education within Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences. Our mission is to work on a range of issues with land grant universities and other partners in the Northeast as well as nationally in support of rural development. The Center seeks applications for an open Administrative Support Assistant 4 position. Primary responsibilities include managing a range of federal and private foundation grants, and coordinating regular conference calls and in-person meetings with the Center’s stakeholders. Specific grants-related responsibilities include assisting the director with developing and submitting grant applications, including crafting budgets; regularly report on grant expenditures so that grants are spent down effectively; monitoring grant reporting deadlines as well as expiration dates; assisting with reporting on grants accomplishments at regular intervals; making payments on grants, including reimbursing for travel, and also ensuring the timely submission of invoices for grants on which the Center is a subcontractor. The meetings-related activities include organizing and managing routine conference calls that are held by the Center with its stakeholders as well as organizing and managing all logistics-related parts of face-to-face meetings and recording meeting minutes. Duties may also include supervising staff and work study students. Other routine office-related assignments include assisting with website maintenance and mailing lists for the Center and other administrative duties as needed. Successful applicants will be highly self-motivated and able to work efficiently under minimal direction and supervision. Occasional travel may be expected. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent knowledge of IBIS, ERS and other Penn State programs is a plus. Knowledge of or willingness to learn other software such as AdobeConnect is expected. This is a fixed-term appointment for for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
