Paid undergraduate internship in the Global Initiatives department at Penn State University Libraries. Internship period: Fall 2019-Spring 2020. Preference will be given to applicants who are available for the full academic year. Penn State University Libraries is a highly sought-after partner in global engagement initiatives both within and outside the university. The Libraries organize and co-sponsor talks, film screenings, training events, poster sessions, and many other events that focus on global engagement, global citizenship and intercultural understanding. Further, University Libraries is involved in key partnerships with six Global Engagement Network institutions around the world, namely, the University of Freiburg, University of Split, University of Cape Town, Monash University, Universidad Catolica del Peru, and Sungkyunkwan University. The primary duties of the intern include: managing logistics for events; drafting proposals for various exhibits, programming, funding, and grants; setting up meetings and handling communication with university staff and partners abroad; working with the Libraries’ Public Relations and Marketing Department to publicize events. The Global Partnerships Intern reports directly to the Global Partnerships and Outreach Librarian. Desired Skills and Experience: Upper level undergraduate student; availability for both Fall and Spring semesters; enrollment in a related major or minor (International Relations, International Business, Global Studies, etc.); excellent communication, writing, time management, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills; ability to work independently on assigned tasks; desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment; inquisitive, positive attitude and natural curiosity; Understanding of cultural sensitivity and multicultural work; some international experience preferred but not required; fluency in a language other than English preferred but not required. Rate of Pay: This is a two-semester paid internship. Estimated workload is 15-20 hours per week. The pay rate is $9.50/hour. To apply to this position please upload a resume and cover letter.
