The Materials and Manufacturing Office (MMO) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University, is seeking part-time Research and Development Engineers for the Metals and Ceramics Processing Department. Responsibilities include: Develop and complete experimental plans for sintering of powder materials, analyze the results, and prepare technical reports/presentations; provide direction for the technical staffing in the setup and operation of the equipment in the field assisted sintering techniques (FAST) laboratory; and ensure safe operation of the equipment and that all safety and operational procedures are followed. A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in an Engineering or Science discipline is required. The following are preferred: Knowledge of how to sinter materials using various techniques, including FAST; understanding of the characterization of sintered materials by various techniques, including hardness, SEM, X-ray, and transmission electron microscopy; experience with the design and fabrication of dies for sintering processes vacuum hot and hot isostatic pressing; and experience with Solidworks material analysis, using finite element programs. The ability to obtain CFATS certification will be required for this position. Candidate selected will also be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
