The Nittany Artificial Intelligence (AI) Alliance at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU) is looking for a talented and highly motivated undergraduate intern to work on AI-related projects, gaining hands-on experience that enhances their learning at Penn State, while also gaining highly marketable development experience. Selected candidates will become a software development team member and assist with the development of prototypes leveraging artificial intelligence and the design and configuration of cognitive modules within existing cognitive agents. We are looking for front-end developer interns to join our team for Summer 2019. This internship will carry through Fall 2019. As an AI Developer intern, you will collaborate with the other software development team members to do meaningful work while also growing your programming expertise. A portfolio showing prior work is required in order to be considered. Your portfolio presentation should demonstrate a command of best practices and principals of front-end development through a combination of demos, prototypes, and/or final products. Responsibilities: Take wireframes and concepts created by a UX Designer and drive them from concept to implementation leveraging technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Perform work leveraging development frameworks. Produce, modify, and maintain web application user interfaces. Implement responsive designs. Research state-of-the-art algorithms in machine learning. Design solution prototypes that connect data sources through the selected algorithms to a concrete use case. Develop code to implement the algorithms, and test their efficacy and efficiency against real-world data. Maintain software workflow and versioning. Test all functionality during development for usability and fix any bugs. Document all code according to common development best practices. Create technical documentation of all work in order to provide knowledge sharing and transfer with other team members and Penn State personnel. Requirements: Demonstrated understanding of requirements, design, code, and user-experience interactions. Demonstrated abilities in front-end development through a portfolio of demos, prototypes, and/or final products. Experience with HTML5 & CSS. Experience with modern JavaScript & Python. Knowledge of data structures and data management methods, and the ability to analyze a problem and determine an efficient structure for the task. Experience with a code version tool. Experience with GitHub a plus. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Particularly, the ability to effectively communicate with product owners and team members and the ability to develop clear written technical documentation, are critical. A self-starter comfortable working in a team environment is a must. Preferred: Experience with cloud computing and storage services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud; specific experience with machine learning and deep learning capabilities on those platforms is preferred. Experience with containerization technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as TensorFlow,, or Caffe.
