The Composite Materials Division in the Materials and Manufacturing Office (MMO) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking an Engineering Support Specialist to join the Process Optimization and Structural Characterization Department. Responsibilities Include: Composite test specimen preparation via machining of composite panels; fixture and jig fabrication; set-up machinery for different machining tasks and simple machine maintenance while identifying equipment faults, making necessary minor repairs; create panel maps (sketches/drawings) for specimen traceability; evaluate the selection of tooling specific to composite material demands; and work as part of a manufacturing team to support prototype development and schedules, when necessary. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Associate's degree or higher in a technical program or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred experience areas include: general machine shop practices; equipment operation; proper use of various measuring instruments; non-metallic materials machining; AutoCAD; and Microsoft Excel. The successful candidate will: Hold a high attention to detail; possess decision making and time management skills; be highly creative; have the ability to work in a team atmosphere; and be committed to workplace safety. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment.
