Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pa, Inc. (Ben Franklin/CNP) is the largest early-stage investor and supporter of technology-based start-up companies across the 32 counties of central and northwestern Pennsylvania. Headquartered in State College, and with offices in Erie, Harrisburg, Lancaster and Johnstown, Ben Franklin/CNP’s high-risk, early-stage investments, along with robust management assistance, help local entrepreneurs grow their companies, create jobs, and increase wealth for Pennsylvanians. This Regional Director/Portfolio Manager position serves as principal point-of-contact for those seeking financial investment and business support services from Ben Franklin/CNP in our Southern Alleghenies Region which includes Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntington, Indiana and Somerset counties. While actively and visibly encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation in the region, the successful candidate will be an enthusiastic supporter of new business growth coming from all possible locations, populations, and sources of innovation. Active interaction, prospecting, and outreach to the business, investment/finance, higher-education, and technology sectors is required. This position’s primary responsibility is to target, select, mentor, and facilitate due-diligence on the most promising startups and small manufacturers that need a Ben Franklin/CNP investment to further their growth. This position will be a key participant and contributor to the region’s Startup Alleghenies initiative. The successful candidate, who ideally has first-hand entrepreneurial experience, will also engage with companies in our portfolio across the rest of our 32-county region, based on the company’s needs and the candidate’s business skills and experience. Added responsibilities include presenting vetted prospective investments to the Ben Franklin/CNP Board for funding approval, coordinating business mentoring for funded companies, tracking company milestones and progress, plus helping in any way possible to protect the collective investment made by the entrepreneur and the Ben Franklin Center. The Regional Director/Portfolio Manager reports directly to the President/CEO of Ben Franklin/CNP. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a technology-based private-sector company or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Enthusiasm for the opportunities and potential of Central PA and the Southern Alleghenies communities, and for educated risk-taking is a must. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment, are essential. Frequent day, and occasional overnight travel to other BF/CNP field offices throughout Pennsylvania is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
