The Maintenance and Operations department at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College is seeking applicants to fill the position of Janitorial Supervisor for our third shift operations. Reporting to the Supervisor of Physical Plant Maintenance and working with the Assistant Janitorial Supervisor, the Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for the hiring, supervision, administration and training of our technical service employees to ensure quality procedures are followed. This includes, but is not limited to: overseeing and reviewing work completed by all janitorial staff for quality; creating a work schedule to meet campus conditions and janitorial needs based on the academic calendar; inspecting all janitorial equipment on a monthly basis to ensure proper upkeep; and maintenance of the janitorial supply inventory. This position will also be responsible for performance evaluations for the assigned technical service crew, including regular feedback sessions, as well as administration of the Union/University procedures and policies. The third shift supervisor is responsible for identifying and addressing potential disciplinary issues for discussion with the Supervisor of Physical Plant Maintenance and Human Resources, and will be expected to participate in the grievance process. The third shift supervisor is responsible for approximately 35 employees across the 31 buildings of Penn State Behrend, encompassing 850 acres and 850,000 square feet of space. This position typically works 3rd shift Sunday through Thursday, but must be available at other times as work demands dictate. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired qualifications include a comprehensive knowledge of janitorial methods and processes. Must be proficient in Microsoft office tools, including the use of e-mail. Must have proven ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and provide excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience, be capable of self-management, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, judgement, and problem solving with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team. This position requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of both a motor vehicle records check and a standard background check. The janitorial supervisor will require IICRC certification within two years of hire.
